Anybody who works for HALLIBURTON please help!!!?

My fiance cant decide weather to get a mechanical engineering degree or a petroleum engineering degree. He is starting a shop assistant job at halliburton this fall and his goal is to keep moving up in the company. So to the question....which degree would be more helpful? What are the different jobs he would work with each? or is it all just the same? THANKS!
